Guwahati is the gateway to Kaziranga National Park, the most famous attraction in Assam as it is home to the rare Great Indian One-Horned Rhinocerous. You won't find this rhino in many other places, so a visit to this park is something special. You can take jeep and elephant safaris into the park to spot the famous one-horned rhinos and a wide array of other animals, from wild buffaloes to delicate swamp deer and elusive tigers and a wide variety of birds.
Day 1 - Kaziranga
Today you drive from Guwahati to Kaziranga which was declared a game reserve in 1926 to save the Indian one-horned rhino from extinction. Now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Kaziranga National Park is a substantial sized park, covering approximately 430 square kilometers. The sanctuary features various habitats. Swampland gives way to jungle, which rises up to deciduous forests and finally to evergreen slopes.
You stay for two nights in the oldest jungle lodge in Kaziranga, located in a picturesque village close to the main entrance to the National Park. The rooms have plenty of charm, with cane chairs and wooden furniture. There is a large dining room, with an inviting terrace overlooking the gardens. The resort has its own dedicated team of knowledgeable and enthusiastic naturalists who accompany all excursions into the National Park.
Day 2 - Kaziranga
You take an early morning elephant safari followed by a jeep safari in the National Park to spot the famous one-horned rhinos. The largest population in the world of these prehistoric looking creatures exists here, along with almost 40 major mammals. These include wild elephants, tiger, buffaloes, gaur, monkeys, deers, otters, badgers, leopards, and wild boar. The birdlife is also impressive. Thousands of migratory birds arrive at the park every year, from distant lands as far away as Siberia. As far as game spotting goes, Kaziranga is unlikely to disappoint.
Day 3 - Kaziranga
Your tour ends in Kaziranga after breakfast. You can either return to Guwahati or continue to Jorhat & Majuli Island.
