Few regions in India are more interesting than Madhya Pradesh, in the heart of India. Intersected by rivers and dotted by hills and lakes, the state has a varied setting of great beauty.
This tour visits the great Buddhist stupa of Sanchi and the romantic ghost-town of Mandu. There are also the interesting temple towns at Maheshwar and Omkareshwar.
Orissa
Bhubaneshwar, Puri & Konarak
The Bhubaneswar temples have delicate, almost filigree-like carvings whilst the erotic sculptures of Konarak are said by some to surpass even those at Khajuraho.
Chilika Lake, Asia's largest salt-water lake, boasts of Irrawady dolphins and rich birdlife. The long sandy beach at Puri with its distinctive green/blue waters makes for a great evening stroll.
Magnificent Hampi

The laid back village of Hampi was the last capital of Vijayanagar, one of the greatest Hindu kingdoms in India's history. The city was planned out in neat grids, had a well thought of sewage system, bustling market place full of luxurious goods and magnificent palaces.
What's left today are extremely captivating ruins dating back to the 14th century. They stretch for just over 25 kilometers and comprise more than 500 monuments. Moreover, the landscape is remarkable, with huge boulders standing against the blue skies.
Ajanta & Ellora

Not far from Aurangabad, at Ellora and Ajanta, are some of the finest examples of cave architecture in the world.
Constructed mainly by Buddhist monks as early as 200 B.C., the caves form a pocket history of Buddhist art and thought. At Ellora the caves are masterpieces of sculpture whereas at Ajanta the caves are famous for their magnificent paintings.

You will find here many mosques, monuments and forts of the Moghul period of India's history. The medieval atmosphere of the bazaars of Old Delhi contrasts sharply with the open, spacious streets of New Delhi, the imperial city created as the capital of India by the British.
